"What a beautiful thing to do! My girls did they when they were younger (10 inches each) and got a certificate and thank you letter. Great experience!"

"Your picture and story made me smile. What a great way to introduce thoughtfulness and philanthropy to your family.

I did some research on haircuts for cancer patients last spring. I found 3 reputable organizations that appreciate donations. They have varying requirements for lengths. I thought your readers might want to know about them too.

Beautiful lengths, beautifullengths.com = 8inches
wigs for kids, www.wigsforkids.org = 12 inches
locks of love, www.locksoflove.org = 10 inches"

"Mommysecrets- That is SUCH great information to know. Thank you for sharing that!

I should mention this was her first haircut so it was a little scary for her, but once we really got trimming she started to zone out and seemed a little less scared :) It was all in efforts to get that sucker at the end of the haircut :)

I am still amazed that at 3 years old she was able to make a donation like that and still have shoulder-length hair!"

"That one looks more like locks of torture LOL! My daughter likes to get her hair trimmed but I don't think she be on board for drastic changes just yet. Maybe when she gets a bit bigger. It really is a great charity."

"Ha! Well, she is three so she hasn't made her mind up about her hair yet :) She is really loving her new look- she keeps looking in the mirror and swinging her bob. It is precious :)"

"Wonderful! My 8 year old did this last year, and it was a great experience. Was it her first haircut?"

"The pain of sacrifice. She seems happy with the end result, though! And the new cut is adorable!"

"Sarah- It was her first haircut, thus the tears this time. She got better as we progressed, just that initial sitting in the chair was scary :)

Alicia- I hate to tell her that being a girl is painful. Think of all the things women have to do to stay beautiful :) A lifetime of beauty rituals :)"

"That is great! Your daughter is such a trooper! I am growing my hair out now and even I am having a hard time with it :)"

"Awww...what a trooper. That first hair cut (and at age 3) can be rough! And look at all the hair she has left...that's amazing. What a great thing to do and such a cute hair cut as well!!"

"She is so adorable Amy and what a great cause! If I can ever get Miss A to agree to have her hair cut this would be such a worthwhile thing to do."

"I think its great you are teaching her this at such a young age! I am 23 and have donated 5 feet of hair over the past 10 years!
Congrats! And tell her she is amazing!!"

"I'm getting ready to get my daughter, Clara's, hair cut and donate. She's had trims before, but never chopped. After reviewing the rules, I noticed the hair wasn't in a ponytail or braided. Do they not care about that anymore? Did she have a full 10 inches to donate? I don't think Clara will have a full 10 inches. I would hope she would have 8 inches, but what if she only has 6?"

"Amy, my daughter turned 2 in September and aside from a bang cut when she was 1 (which has grown out) she has never had a haircut. I plan to take her in a week. Your video scares me!! I love her long hair, but it's hard to comb and a little unruly. If she cries, I think I will cry too. I may cry even if she doesn't!"

at 12:19 PM

Blogger Amy
"Ginger- Oh, don't cry! I bet she will do great! This was her first real haircut and she wasn't happy about sitting in the chair instead of playing with the blocks like she normally does. :) Hang in there and let me know how it goes!"

"awww...I felt the same way when I chopped off my hair for locks of love several years ago, I wanted to cry too!
And are we jealous for all that hair. My almost 2 year old can barely wear barrettes and no way on any pony/pig tails! Ah, it will come I suppose, at least we hope she doesn't remain this bald forever! :)"

"Oh what a moment! :)

It has been almost two years since I donated my hair. I'm ready to again, just need to make the time to do it."

"Poor little thing! Her cry is just so pitiful in that little video. I bet you gave her a huge hug after that haircut! :)

I love her new 'do, by the way! And those pajamas are so fun."

"Aw! Poor thing! So traumatic. But she looks happy (and so cute!) in the after pic. I can't believe how much hair she still has left! It's great she even stayed in the chair while they were cutting!"
