It Was Bound to Happen

At the doctor's office:

Dr: Well, it looks like a sinus infection. I am going to go ahead and prescribe some medicine for them.

Me: That sounds great!

Dr: I would pick this up at Meijer. The kids will get their antibiotics free there, which is a great deal.... and I know how much you love a deal (with a wink)! How's that next article coming?

*****************************
On the massage table:

Me: When did you start working here?

Massage Therapist: Oh, about a year ago. I love it.

Me: That is great!

Massage Therapist: You stay home right? And do your website?

Me: (face muffled in massage table) Um, yeah... I do. How did you know that?

Massage Therapist: Oh, I read your articles in Michiana Family Magazine. That is so great that you figured out a way to stay home with your kids and work.

*****************************

Me: I brought in my vitamins to show you, like you had suggested, just to see if I was taking what you were recommending.

Doctor: Let me see. Wow! I am so impressed!

Me: Oh, really? Did I pick the right stuff?

Doctor: I am just impressed at the quality of the vitamins you bought. Honestly, I am really impressed.

Me: Well, they were a bit of a splurge, but I gave up my prescription drugs so...

Doctor: No, I am just really impressed.

In line at Goodwill...

Cashier: That will be $15. Oh, you brought your own bag....wait, I know you. You're that frugal mom. I watch you every week. (Calling over to the other cashier) Shirley, Shirley....remember that girl I was telling you about? That one that tells you about deals and coupons. That one on the news. This is her. You need to watch her.

Shirley: How can I watch her? I am always working here!

Guy Behind Me: You do that segment on WSBT?

Me: Yes

Guy Behind Me: I watch that every Tuesday

Cashier: That tip about Sam's Club...I loved that tip

Lady Behind Me: What tip?

Cashier: She said you can order your stuff online and they will put it together for you.

Lady Behind Me: (interrupting) Yes, yes...I already knew that. I thought everyone knew that (smugly)

Me: Thank you, have a great day!

*****************************

In line at the grocery store...

Guy in Front of Me: Is that a good deal on bread? You bought a lot of it?

Me: Well, it is about $2 cheaper per loaf so I thought it would be a good time to....

Guy In Front of Me: Can you watch my cart for a minute?

Me: Um... yeah

Guy In Front of Me (now behind me): My wife is going to be so happy!

*****************************

It was bound to happen. What do you do when your anonymous life doesn't feel anonymous anymore? I am talking to all of you great bloggers out there- do your families read your blogs? Do people know you because of your blog? Do you censor yourself because you know people are reading your blog?

Here is another question, is it good to be known because you are CHEAP?

I really want to talk about this with someone and I am asking people to come out of lurking and tell me how you guys deal with this stuff. Please share!

"Can I have your autograph? ;)

My entire family knows about and reads my blog. I'm not as forthcoming with other people and I'm not on TV (like you...you rock!) so I haven't really been approached yet at the store.

I think it's good to be known as "frugal!" Hey, you made that guy with the bread happy!

The oddest thing that has happened recently was during Christmas at my husband's aunt and uncle's house when his uncle said Congrats on your latest blog venture! I had NO idea he read my blog. Yikes."

"Jamie- Um, my autograph isn't worth squat. I hope that post doesn't sound cocky. I guess you put stuff out there and only two people tell me they like it and I have no idea if people are reading things I have written or do watch that segment in the morning (it is on really early).

I have had the same thing happen with my family- I just don't know that they are reading it or that their friends are reading it (which seems even stranger) :)"

"Well, first, those stories are hilarious! But, in my head, I was thinking, "Does she have a Meijer New Prescription Coupon to take advantage of??"

I do not censor my blog whatsoever. It is who I am, and people have made the comment it's like they're talking to me (I've never asked if it was good or bad..oh well!).

And, I was actually at dinner on Monday with some ladies from my MOPS group and they were all like, "You need to check out Andrea's blog..she has this and that and, so and so sent it to us, didn't you get the link ..." I was surprised they were sending it to each other and actually reading it. I mean, it's great that they are finding it helpful but it's kind of funny that they're reading what I have to say and they don't really know me - I guess saving money is universal and we at least have that kinship(although I don't know the person from Malaysia that has visited but they must like to save money and read about miracles)!

I would say, after reading your story and why you started your site, you should be thrilled that you have achieved what you originally set out to do (and ya really lucked out with a techie hubby)! Really - congratulations! I only wish I would have heard momadvice a long time ago!!!"

"Ha, now that is funny, Andrea! It was like when I wrote that Frugal Hacks post about each person thinking they were more frugal and then everyone had scenarios for how they would have taken it further. If only I had that Meijer coupon :) I do have a CVS one that I plan to cash in on today.

That is so funny about your MOPS group. I have found my mom's group to be some of my biggest supporters of all- it makes me proud to be backed by a big group of women like that. Sooo cool!"

"I definitely don't have this problem on the same scale as you, but I do have people at church come up and talk to me about my blog. Which I think is weird. Especially when I get the "my husband and I were talking about what you posted last week" comments. But I haven't censored anything yet!

Maybe you can get some extra large sunglasses and a floppy hat or head scarf or something? *wink*"

"I do censor myself because I know some people are reading my blog that I would prefer didn't...I also censor for the sake of my children who are adopted...I don't want to much info out there on the WWW....
On the other hand... your "realness" is so refreshing and what you share is REALLY valuable!! Take all of those incidents as compliments... We'll start to worry if the paparrazzi start harassing you!! (hee,hee...little joke...)
Again, your info has saved me tons of money...Thank you!!!!"

"LOL can I be your agent? I am not well known for being cheap, but people know that I lost a LOT (over 200lbs) of weight. So I always get..wowwww you were H-U-G-E. Yea. thanks. And "do you have saggy skin now?" so I think I would rather be known for being cheap!"

"Good for you!I don't think that many people even know my blog exists...yet anyway. TV puts you out there, so get used to it! Enjoy it and remember now that you're a celebrity you need to be on your best behavior at all times, just kidding! Way to go Amy!"

"Mimi- Your site is GREAT! You should be really proud.

I am tempted to take this post down...didn't mean to sound like I thought I was a celebrity :) I just thought it has felt very strange."

"That's so fun...you're like a local celebrity!

Can I say, "Well, I read her way back when...""

"What time are you on WSBT? I haven't seen you yet! LOL And, where is that Michiana Family magazine available? And, you ever consider doing a spot on WSJM - "the talk of Michigan's Great Southwest"? *wink* Call 'em...I'D listen!"

"Beth- I have never heard of that station? Is that a radio station?

I am on each Tuesday on WSBT. I post the segements here each week and if you go on their site and search under "Amy Clark" everything I have done should pop up. Those segments usually air between 6:30-6:45 AM.

Michiana Family Magazine can be found at CVS, Meijer Supermarket, the doctor's office, the dentist office, etc.. It is a free publication usually next to those home books and such.

Let me know if you find it :)"
