"If you would like to, please post the number of people in your family and your grocery amount spent each week!! I am really interested in your numbers :)

We have four people in our family (one infant & a 3 yr old) and we spend $50 a week on groceries."

"We have four people in our family, myself, husband, 3 yr old and 21 month old. I spend approx. $200 every two weeks. This includes diapers and household items. I usually shop at our local Save-a-lot first and then on to Walmart. I would love to know how you spend $50 a week. Does this include baby and household items?

"Yup, that includes our household & baby items.

I am nursing our daughter & I cloth diaper her so I don't have to purchase formula or diapers.

I don't purchase any paper products with the exception of paper napkins. I get all of our cleaners at the Dollar Tree, and buy toilet paper only when it is on sale.

On occasion, I do go over budget particularly when we are low on meat.

I shop at Aldi for the majority of my groceries and supplement shop at Sam's Club or our local supermarket for the things that I can't get there.

I hope that explains a little bit more...."

"I voted $21-50. There is now only my husband and I. But for the last 3 weeks I have only spend $10 a week for milk and a few dairy items and fruits and veggies. I have extra food in the pantry and freezer bought before at their lowest that we are using up. Yes, I use a price book. We use cloth napkins. the total included all cleaning and paper goods."

"Wow!! Cloth napkins is a good idea. I spend probably $200.00/week. I REALLY need to do something. There are 4 in our family and 3 dogs. A lot of convenience foods are bought and my husband LOVES steak. For some reason he feels entitled to have it everyday because he works out. Oh well, looks like Mama is going to have to put down her fist to live up to your incredible bargaining accomplishments. I'll have to try Aldi...thought about it but never made it there."

"I thought we were spending about $400 per month for __groceries__. We shop at only two stores for groceries and always use a credit card. Studying the January 2008 monthly statement shows that we (just the two of us) spend about $1,000. This would include salt for the softener, paper, soap, occasional bottle of wine, etc. The $1000 is the TOTAL as our low-salt/low cholesterol diet means we _never_ eat out.

Perhaps January was unusual. I'll watch to see what February turns out like."

"I used lists, watched what I purchased and kept receipts. Where we spent about 1200 bucks in January, we spent only 850 (only! ha). Since one grocery also has a gas station, I was careful to keep the receipts separate. Chicken was a great deal so I stocked up. Also, flour prices are about to spike so I stocked up on that. If I really watch things and ignore things on sale, I might get down to $800. Thanks to all who shared their numbers."
