She swiftly takes over her sister's world in a classic con story moment filled with fun revelations on what it would be like to be suddenly inundated with love and scrutiny by your fandom.

But the second half develops into an unusual influencer excursion on a private island where she uncovers dark secrets about what it took for her sister to rise on the influencer food chain. Zhang takes the reader on surprisingly diabolical and sometimes grotesque turns as a cult horror subplot develops, reaching a fevered pace until the story's final page.

Readers should be prepared for Bunny meets Yellowface (IYKYK) as these two halves of the puzzle come together in sometimes devilishly farfetched ways that still offer sharp commentary on race, class, and privilege. I enjoyed this story immensely.

To create a sense of calm in her life, Fern must adhere to a consistent routine, steering clear of crowds, bright lights, and loud noises. Understanding Fern's struggles, Rose has taken on the role of her steadfast protector, ensuring that their environment remains stable and secure, as she knows how quickly chaos can overwhelm Fern.

When Rose discovers she cannot conceive, Fern sees an opportunity to finally give back to the sister who has always cared for her. With remarkable speed, Fern finds a potential partner, and what begins as a simple "transaction" unexpectedly evolves into a deep, meaningful relationship.

I read this backlist novel this summer. It blends two settings—Nantucket and the Vineyard—into a Parent Trap-inspired storyline reminiscent of a soap opera.

In the story, twin sisters Harper and Tabitha switch places after their mother falls and breaks her hip.

Sensible and practical, Tabitha escapes her exhausting teenage life and the struggles of their family business to pursue a carefree life and blossoming romance in her sister's town.

Meanwhile, Harper, the messier of the two, finds it therapeutic to mentor her niece and transform her sister's seaside boutique into the town's hot spot.

As secrets are revealed and new discoveries are made, numerous unnecessary side characters are introduced, making this novel's over four hundred pages long. Despite its bloated nature, it was an easy one to unwind with at the end of the day.

I am beginning to get the appeal of Elin Hilderbrand's storytelling.

This sad, character-driven novel showcases fifty-one-year-old Jeanie and Julius Seeder, inseparable twins who have lived a life of rural isolation in their mother's cottage in the English countryside.

But when their mother, Dot, unexpectedly dies, the security they've known collapses.

Suddenly, they face a future where their close bond is tested as Julius yearns for independence while Jeanie struggles to keep them afloat.

As startling secrets from Dot's past emerge, the twins must confront their mother's hidden history and the profound shifts in their relationship, their identities, and the life they once knew.

Unsettled Ground won the Costa Novel Award 2021 and was shortlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction.

Hall's novel features twins Bishop and Bethany, which are central to the story's narrative. I'll admit that's not why I added it to this list—I just want more people to read this inventive story.

Samuel is a professor and struggling writer who escapes into an online world as an elf to cope with his failed marriage and inability to finish his book.

His life takes a turn when he learns that his mother has been arrested for assaulting a politician—a shocking event, considering it's been over twenty years since they spoke.

To jumpstart his writing, he agrees with his agent to write a memoir about being abandoned by his mother, which requires him to reconnect with her and understand her past. The book navigates various timelines, from the '60s hippie movement to Samuel's childhood and his current struggles.

I laughed out loud, especially at the cinematic tales from Samuel's childhood and the humorous moments related to his online gaming life.

While the book could have benefited from some trimming, it did not detract from my overall enjoyment! Much like Wellness, this novel is full of unexpected surprises.

Maggie O'Farrell's haunting and lyrical novel centers on the deeply bonded twins Hamnet and Judith, the children of Agnes and her playwright husband, never named but understood to be William Shakespeare.

Set in 16th-century England, the story traces the tender relationship between the siblings and the unimaginable grief that follows Hamnet's sudden death from the plague.

Focusing on maternal love, loss, and the unseen forces that shape art and legacy, Hamnet reimagines the origin story behind one of the world's greatest tragedies.

If I had to pick my favorite Wally Lamb book, it would be this one.

Wally Lamb's emotionally charged epic follows Dominick, a man battling his own inner demons while caring for his identical twin brother Thomas, who has paranoid schizophrenia.

After Thomas commits a shocking act of self-harm in a public library, Dominick is pulled into a harrowing journey. Lamb explores the desperate search for meaning in the face of suffering through the lens of twinhood.

I have read so many books about the Holocaust over the years, but I never feel like I am informed enough about the horrors.

Once again, I find myself oblivious to those who suffered as Konar unfolds the story of twins Sasha & Pearl, who became a part of the experimental population of twins that were known as Mengle's Zoo, based in Auschwitz.

Many begged and falsely claimed that their children were twins to be part of Mengle's Zoo because they believed they had been saved from certain death.

Unfortunately, these children were far from safe and became a part of tests to separate the twins from one another, both physically and psychologically. Konar explores this through these sisters, told from alternating perspectives, as they are brutally experimented upon.

The fact that something so horrible can be expressed with such beauty is a true testament to Konar's writing. Her style reminds me of Eowyn Ivey. Both authors share an almost magical quality in their prose, even when depicting the harshest moments.

To reveal the story would spoil the experience of reading it, but I can tell you that it is filled with suspense and each shocking, creepy turn leaves you wanting more. The writing is beautiful, laden with references to literature, a perfect escape for any book lover.
