  1. Thanks for a chance to win this set. I have a 20 month old grandson that is having some language developement problems. One of the things that we are doing if first having patience with him. It is hard for him to communicate. Second, we are taking every opportunity and making it a learning experience. We have seen him come a long way in one month. We are also using the things that he likes…toys, snacks, etc. so that the learning part is not so frustrating.

It is a lot of work but seeing how far he has come is such a reward.

  8. My twins don’t really talk yet, just to each other. But I talk to them in french and english and “we” sing songs and dance in both languages. I believe their dad only speaks to them in spanish. So I guess I’m gonna have trilingual kids, if I can get them to speak something other than “twin” speak. I’m trying to get them into a french “playgroup” from the french alliance but they canceled the tuesday class from lack of interest.

It is my dream that my children will be biligual and learn to respect other cultures. Just keeping them immersed in cultural experiences is my main tactic.

By the way, we’re open to other cultures and languages besides Spanish! :)

  37. We are Grandparents who are raising our youngest granddaughter, she is 2 1/2 and has been with us since 4 months old. My husband and I have always been big on talking to our 2 children without the baby talk. We always involved them in discussions even when very small we encouraged them to name items properly. Both our granddaughters are clear talkers and talked early. We also sit and watch certain shows, and do all sorts of crafts, and puzzles and interact with colours and shapes and sizes with them. Most people can not believe the way they talk, no secret its all in the way you encourage and spend time with them. Its also alot easier to break the habit of babytalk when you talk to them as you would anyone else except with easier words.

  45. This sounds so neat! I believe the main thing we do for language development is reading. I read aloud to my children ALOT. I really think this is the best way for them to develop proper grammar, formation of sentences and coherent speech patterns. We also do a lot of memorization even though they are pretty young (5 & 3) and I believe this helps as well. As for a foreign language, I know some spanish and enjoy teaching them words. We live in a very Hispanic populated city so I would love for us all to become better at speaking spanish.

  49. I have three young children. My oldest had speech delays but no longer does. The other two seem to be developing typically. The two most important things that I do with my children are reading them books – many, many books, and talking to them ALL the time! I talk to them about anything and everything (well, age appropriate topics!). I use a normal tone of voice and I label things with their real names. They love to be included in conversations!
