my favorites as a younger child/tween were Harriet the Spy, Deenie, and Charlotte’s Web. Now I really like horror, and short stories-the Hot Blood series is really one of my favorites but has a more adult theme to it… I enjoy reading it though, for the twisted stories, wondering how on Earth someone could think up something so darn bizarre?! I have also won a few books from Christian writers in Blogland, and am now reading them as well, and am happy to say that these have been good too.
One of my favorite books is Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. I just finished rereading it (again) last night. Great, fun story with a really tight plot and wondeful characters.
my favorite book is the cider house rules by john Irving it is amazing!! If you haven’t read it, well I really think you should : )
One of my favorite books of all time is “The Hiding Place” by Corrie ten Boom. It was the first WWII/Nazis book I read and had a profound impact on me as a child.
My favorite book is The Count of Monte Cristo
I want all these books! I love Madam Bovary. Sadly, I could very much ientify with the title character. I haven’t read a book in a year, since my daughter was born. She has chilled out some so let the reading commence!
One of my favourite books is the Canadian Oxford Dictionary… I know that’s probably not the kind of book you meant, but it’s the first one that came to mind.
A very moving can’t put it down true story book that I love is called “A Walk to Remember” . Everyone should read it!
The Color of Water by James McBride
http://www.jamesmcbride.com/
Thanks for the chance…my family breath books. In these times (gas prices) even a book is a luxury…thank you.
One of my favorite books is The Secret Life of Bees. I hear there’s a movie coming out. I love books about southern America during the early 1900’s. My other niche is Victorian literature (the sound of my profession makes me want to puke, but it’s true). Beat literature is always good for a buck the system uplift.
I absolutely loved “In Her Shoes”, by Jennifer Weiner. But, as is so often the case, the movie was a HUGE disappointment…
I just finished an Anna Quindlen book, Rise and Shine. I’m a fan of just about anything she writes.
Where the Sidewalk Ends
Gosh…since I am a bookworm, I have so many faves!! I’d say that two of my biggest contemporary faves though would be “As Time Goes By” by Lori Wick (I love the way she makes her characters so real) and “Echoes” by Robin Jones Gunn (funnily enough my husband and I first met online similar to the main characters in this book–which was a fave of mine YEARS before I met my husband)!!
Of course, then there are the classics. Probably “Swiss Family Robinson” and “The Count of Monte Cristo” are my top two. I also love me some Jane Austin, of course!!
Then there are the great kid books…the Ramona books, Bobbsey Twins, Hardy Boys, Charlotte’s Web, etc.!!
It really is too hard to pick an all-time fave!!
Anything by Alexandre Dumas, especially “The Count of Monte Cristo.” Also, “Blue Like Jazz” by Donald Miller.
My favorite book of all time is “Till We Have Faces” by C.S. Lewis. It is an amazing story that had a profound impact on how I view God, and how He sees me. It’s one I’ll read probably 50 more times in my life.
My favorite book is “The Last Great Necessity” by Charles David Sloane. Its a page-turner, which is surprising as its a scholarly history of American cemeteries.
My favorite book is Deck The Halls by Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark. Who doesn’t love a little suspense based around my favorite holiday.
My favorite book of all time is _A Tree Grows in Brooklyn_ by Betty Smith. A teacher friend recommended it to me one summer in junior high, and my copy has been read and reread probably 50 times. It’s a really touching “coming of age” story about a young (and very poor) girl during the Depression and all that she and her family did to survive and hang in there together to make it through.
Makes me want to pull it out and read it again…
Wow - I love looking at everyone’s favorites - and the quick reviews - that gives me some more to put on my ‘to read list’. My favorite book right now would be “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini - it’s amazing - sad/cruel/haunting/sweet/redeeming - it’s just a really good read you won’t want to put down.
I just finished The Shack by William P. Young and I think it’s one of the best and most important books I have ever read!
Oh wow, I need to pick a favorite? Yikes, that’s a hard one! One of my recent faves is Tracy Chevalier’s The Virgin Blue. Some of my favorite authors right now are Patricia Cornwell, Linda Fairstein, and Kathey Reichs. I love Janet Evanovich for a great laugh. And then when I think of classics, for some reason I think back to the books from my childhood, the Anne of Green Gables series, Nancy Drew, books by Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume.
What a great giveaway, Amy, thanks!
Steph
Well, I love The Lord of the Rings trilogy. And also anything by Minnesota writers Lorna Landvik (especially “Angry Housewives Eating Bonbons”) or Erin Hart (”Haunted Ground”). Oh, and the great book I found in a used bookstore, sort of a nature/season/travelogue chronicle, “Wandering Through Winter” by Edwin Teale. And Sarah ban Breathnach’s “Simple Abundance.” And on….and on…and on….
I adore anything by Jane Austen, but my favorite book of all time is The Endless Steppe by Esther Hautzig. It had a profound effect on the young Jewish girl I was, and to this day I’m one of only two people I know who would love to go to Siberia - and the other girl is a fan of this book, too!
My favorite book is Flowers in the Attic
I’m a huge fan of “A Prayer for Owen Meany”. I also love the children’s book “A Wrinkle in Time”. As for series, I love the Mitford books. -Beth
My favorite book is The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I was very pleasantly surprised with this book. It really made me want to be a bee keeper!
I love books which means I have lots of favorites. If I had to narrow it down to one, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.
I love Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. A great story that is amazingly Christian without even trying.
I loved My Sister’s Keeper. But my all time favorite is probably Rebecca. Or The Clan of the Cave Bear series. Loved Sidney Sheldon, too. Ok, I’ll stop now…thanks for the chance!
I really liked the book “where the heart is”. I enjoyed the movie as well. I used to love to read, but have found with three children I can’t find time. Maybe eventually. LOL
God bless,
Amanda
I love anything by Jodi Picoult.
I love anything written by Jodi Picoult. She is my absolute favorite author. Her storied always make me think. They are also about controversial issues that don’t necassarily have a right or wrong answer. I love to read!
anything by danielle steele shes great in my opinion
My favorite book is Stephen Kinkg’s Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. Its a departure of the usual King stories, but it was so good!
my favorite of all time is the place you’ll go- its great to read to kids and emotional. I love that book
one of my favorite books is franny and zooey by J.D. salinger.
just started reading the ten thousand by paul kearney - and really enjoying it
one of my favorite books is by jannette oke love comes softly
My favorite book of all time (so much that I wore two of them out) is Where the Redfern Grows. I simply can not wait until my kids are old enough to read it. Given the fact that I am intent on them liking it as much as I did of course!!
thanks for such a great contest!
I love Wuthering Heights-the movie, too!
I love the Brian Lumley Necroscope series.
The Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison
My favorite book so far is Henry and June, by Anais Nin. I loved it.
I love any book by Karen Kingsbury, but my favorite series of hers has to be the Redemption series, which leads into the Firstborn series, and then the Sunrise series. They are so good I can hardly put them down. I even read while making dinner… one hand holding the book, the other hand stirring the pot.
I’ve loved books forever! One of my favorites is Les Miserable - I also really love reading over again the Anne of Green Gables series.
When I was a child I loved reading The Box Car Children books and Judy Blume books. Just recently I have been reading The Shack by William P Young and it is blowing me away. I am dying to read The Kite Runner. It’s next on my list. Thanks for the chance to win.
She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb
My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
I love “SWAY” written by Ori and Rom Brafman…It is a book about the irresistible pull of irrational behavior. Reading makes you think of and analyze decisions you (in general) have made to put you in the situations you find yourself in. Yes, it is a “common sense” type of book, but it is a bit more in depth.
I love LOVE love to read and would be extremely excited, overwhelmed and enthusiastic if I were chosen as your winner, so, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CHOOSE ME…I’ll be crossing my fingers for this one and hoping for an email saying that I won
Thank you so much for this!!!
I have to say, my current favorite is “Holding On To Hope” by Nancy Guthrie. As soon as I finished it, I went out and bought 3 more copies for friends.
Loved Bridges of Madison County - both the book and the movie.
The Dark Tower series by Stephen King
My favourite book of all time is “Ryan White; My Own Story”
Do you remember Ryan White? He was one of the first boys to get HIV from tainted blood supplies, back in the day.
His story was sad, painful, horrid, yet beautiful all at the same time. He was tormented by adults and children alike and was even kicked out of school.
Michael Jackson and Elton John were to of the high profile people that befriended him.
He tells his story with honesty and frankness. He speaks of things he wishes he could do, things he never will do, leaving his mother behind, etc.
Its beautifully written and I truly believe it should be required reading for all pre teens and teens.
I keep this book in my living room where I can see it every day as a reminder of how brave Ryan was and it serves as an inspiration to me.
I’d love to win these books.
Thanks
Over the summer, I read ‘The Bishop’s Daughter’ by Wanda E. Brunstetter. It is a very good book.

So many to choose from. One of my favorites was Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett.
Charm School by Nelson DeMille is a really good book. Thanks for the chance.
I recently read and very much enjoyed “Nickel and Dimed” by Barbara Eherenreight(I may have misspelled that last name). It was very eye opening about how people survive working very low wage jobs. Made you think.
Thank you for having this. I would love to win these. I have always been a Stephen King fan. Just finished Lisey’s story a few days ago. But I also like romance books or just about anything. As long as I have a book I am a happy girl. Thank you!

He went on to build schools with the help of the Pakistani people. He faced many detours along the way, but overall helped rebuild some of America’s reputation, and helped girls become educated.
