I am a music fanatic in a big way. It is rare that you will come into my home and music will not be playing and my car is never silent. I love my iPod, I am a huge fan of Pandora, and I blip my little heart out on Twitter.
Here is my other confession…I hate downloading music or anything that requires a lot of work. I wish songs would magically appear on my iPod so I didn’t have to put them on. That is why I was very excited to try the new slotRadio player and see what it was all about.
The slotRadio player is a little thicker than the iPod, but shorter. It has a screen that tells you what type of station you are on and comes with a little earbud set that is (gasp) actually comfortable. With the player is a teeny tiny memory card that is about the size of a baby’s pinky nail. On that little memory card is 1,000 songs arranged into different playlists that you can play depending on your mood and musical taste.
That is it. You slip in the card and you listen to music. It is quite mind-blowing!
The pitfall with this system is that you may not actually like all of the music that is on your card. The player comes bundled with basically a sampler of music from all genres and when I first stuck it in and Lynrd Skynrd stared playing I was like, “Oh, heck no!” We soon realized that the player gives you the option to switch to different stations and I was jamming to Fatboy Slim before you could say Funk Soul Brother.
The other pitfall for parents purchasing this player is that not all the songs come in radio edit version so that might be something to keep in mind if you don’t want your kid dropping some bombs around the dinner table.
The great thing about these players though is that this is a fabulously affordable way to listen to music without any downloading. You can buy a memory card with 1,000 songs on it for $40. That means you will pay $.04 per download and can choose the genre you absolutely love to listen to. The player itself is only $99 and comes with the 1,000 music sampler which is a great start to your collection.
Charging it can be done with a USB cable or even a little charger for your wall which makes even the charging easy for those who are not tech-savvy.
I would highly recommend this as an affordable option for parents who can’t afford the iPod prices or for your own parents who might be struggling with the downloading process.
Where will you see me rocking this player? It has become my new favorite thing to mow the lawn this year! I can’t wait to listen to the Workout Mix while tackling the yard!
