Review: Country Crock Calcium Plus Vitamin D

country-crock1Shedd’s Spread Country Crock has come out with a new spread that has the same taste but with added calcium and vitamin D to make it easier for Moms to get the right nutrients in our family’s diet (each serving provides 100 mg of calcium, which is 10% of the Daily Value (DV) for calcium, and 80 IU of vitamin D, or 20% of the DV for vitamin D).

My family has always been a big fan of Country Crock although I admit that we typically buy our spreadable butter at our local Aldi. Although Aldi has expanded their lines of Fit & Active products, they still offer only one type of spreadable butter so I was excited to try the new offerings from Country Crock.

You will find absolutely no taste difference or even texture difference with this new butter spread with added calcium. Best of all, it is another great way to sneak in more dairy into your kid’s diets. Statistics show that 9 out of 10 girls, and 3 out of 4 boys, don’t get enough calcium, and a recent study indicates that there has been a decline in Vitamin D levels among Americans, both children and adults, over the past 10 years. Getting enough calcium into the diet is important for the development of strong bones and teeth, while Vitamin D is needed to help the body absorb calcium, although very few foods are natural sources.

To help Moms with nutrition, provides recipe ideas, nutrition information and tips for simple ways to get more calcium and vitamin D into your diet. You can also take the Shedd’s Spread Country Crock® Calcium quiz for a chance to instantly win a $25 Visa® gift card. You’ll also be entered for a chance to win a family vacation for five to Yellowstone National Park.  Visit daily through June 13, 2009 for more chances to win.

Thank you to Mom Central for giving us the opportunity to try this great new product from Country Crock!

2% Kraft Singles Now With No Growth Hormones

We have exciting news for moms! KRAFT has unveiled a new line of 2% Singles which are now made with no added growth hormones

The new 2% Singles has the same great taste and melt as traditional Singles, but the milk comes from cows untreated with the growth hormone rbST. While there is no significant difference between milk from rbST-treated and untreated cows, KRAFT knows that this is an important issue to many moms, who want to give their children the most wholesome food available. In fact, more than 70% of moms serve reduced-fat or fat-free milk. But only one third do the same with cheese.

KRAFT sent us everything we would need to make our grilled cheese sandwiches this week, giving us the oportunity to sample their new cheese. We all agreed, it tasted just as good as the last version, but it is good to know that KRAFT is aware that moms are looking for products without growth hormones.

Want to make a perfect grilled cheese in your house? Here is my favorite recipe for making grilled cheese really fast for a big group.

Amy’s Favorite Grilled Cheese Sandwich

12 slices bread
12 slices American Cheese (like Kraft)
8 tablespoons butter or margarine

Butter each side of the bread slices with 1 t butter or margarine, and place on a baking sheet.Place cheese on each slice of bread. Top with remaining bread.Bake in preheated oven for 6 to 8 minutes at 450. Flip the sandwiches, and bake an additional 6 to 8 minutes, or until golden brown.

Giveaway Results: $50 Walmart Gift Card

Wow, I can’t believe we had this many entries, but I just want to thank each of you for taking the time to leave a comment and let me know what you would like to see covered here. I pulled one of the hot topics out of the hat and covered a holiday gift guide for men (all gifts under $20) that was requested by you. I will continue working through this extensive list and I hope you will continue visiting our site!

I want to congratulate commenter #812, Pam B., on winning this gift card. She was chosen at random and had this idea for our site:

“What a blessing a $50 Walmart card would be for holiday shopping! I would love to read more information about organizing my coupons. I have been couponing and refunding for over 30 years, but no matter what I have tried, the paper overwhelms me! There are so many coupons to sort through and file. So far, the best way for me has been to file my coupons in a recipe box divided by tabs (example: Paper Products) then into mini categories (example: Toilet Tissue/Kleenex, Paper Towels/Napkins, Plates/Cups, Wrap/Bags). But I am looking for a better way. I need to save every penny I can, but sometimes I don’t even feel like bothering with my coupons anymore. They really do save me a lot of money, but there has to be a better, easier way!”

We look forward to answering these and many more questions this year. Thank you all for participating and check back each and every Tuesday for fun giveaways!

Sorry- this giveaway has ended!

Walmart wants our readers to have the best holiday season with the lowest prices so they are offering to our readers (in conjunction with my job as an Eleven Mom) the opportunity to win a $50 gift card that will be put towards your holiday shopping/grocery shopping this year.

Just think what you could do with $50 to put towards your holiday shopping? I can already picture myself loading up on goodies for all my cookie trays this year. Unfortunately, I can’t win, but you can!

Please leave a comment by Tuesday (11/18) at 8PM with one topic you would like to see covered on our site/blog. Only entries that follow the guidelines will be entered and I thank you for giving me some content to cover in the new year! Good luck to each of you and may your holiday season be truly blessed!
