Mother’s Day may be behind us, but Father’s Day is just around the corner! I love to offer creative gifts for my family and I will be showcasing a fun Snapfish project that I happened to for my family for Mother’s Day next week, that I think will offer a little photography and fun inspiration for a gift to give yourself.  I am new to using Snapfish for gifts, but am amazed at what a lovely selection they offer for making specially personalized gifts that truly are one of a kind.

With Father’s Day right around the corner, you’re probably starting to think about what to get dad to match his interests. Review: Lush Color Me Christmas Gift Set

color me christmasI was contacted by the Lush company to see if we would be interested in receiving some samples of their products to review. Given the fact that I take a bath about four times a week, I could not wait to sample some of their bath products and to also share a set of these fantastic products with our readers this month.

The Color Me Christmas set comes in a cute reusable box that is ready for your children to color. Inside the box, it contains a Mr. Butterball 4.5 oz, Satsumo Santa 6.3 oz, Strawberry Santa 3.5 oz, Li’l LUSH Pud 3.1oz, Candy Cane 3.5 oz.

The box itself would be a fantastic way to keep your children entertained on Christmas morning and I am hiding the box for just that reason in our family.  I love any packaging that can be reused or that serves a dual purpose so I was particularly fond of this feature.

The bath products themselves were absolutely wonderful although I am still working my way through the gift set. I am one of those people that just love to savor her products and milk them for all they are worth. With the busyness of the holiday season quickly approaching, I plan to take advantage of some of my evenings with these yummy products and a good book.

That being said, one of my favorite products so far has been the Candy Cane Bubble Bar. I tried the Candy Cane Bubble Bar two ways. The first bath, I threw the entire thing in because I had been up all night with a sick child. I had bubbles up to the top of my bath and sunk in with my library book…I know, I know,  I live my life on the edge sometimes. I read four chapters and the bubbles barely disappeared. The water got a little cold so I stepped out and observed the light pink water going down the drain. Although it left a slight film on my tub, there was not a gritty residue and the tub was sparkly after a quick rinse of water.

The second time I used the Candy Cane Bubble Bar, I only used half and I still had a big bubbly bath that was absolutely perfect. Again, I sank down into the bubble bath and savored a few chapters of my library book with bubbles throughout the entire bath experience.  Since these bars individually cost $6.25, it is good to know that you can get two to three baths out of the experience and enjoy a huge bubble bath each time.

My other favorite product in the box was the Mr. Butterball and since my daughter had not been feeling well, I let her indulge in this little treat. The Mr. Butterball dissolved within two seconds which was impressive, but also disappointing at the same time. I was hoping she could watch him dissolve a little longer, but it was also nice to have a creamy bath instantly. This little guy smelled like vanilla and created a creamy bath water that my daughter enjoyed very much. When she got out, her skin was extremely soft and I could not stop smelling her because she smelled so good.

One thing to note is that we have very sensitive skin in our family and I am especially sensitive to strong smells.  After using the Lush products on both of us, neither of us had any reaction to the products. The products did have a smell to them, but not overwhelming smell. They were lightly scented which made them enjoyable to smell rather than overwhelming like many products on the market.

Truly, the thing I was most impressed with about the Lush Company were their core values that they believe in. I pulled these from their site:

We believe in making effective products from fresh, organic* fruit and vegetables, the finest essential oils and safe synthetics.

We invent our own products and fragrances. We make them fresh by hand using little or no preservative or packaging, using only vegetarian ingredients, and tell you when they were made.

We believe in buying ingredients only from companies that do not commission tests on animals and in testing our products on humans.

We believe in happy people making happy soap, putting our faces on our products and making our mums proud.

We believe in long candlelit baths, sharing showers, massage, filling the world with perfume and in the right to make mistakes, lose everything and start again.

We believe our products are good value, that we should make a profit and that the customer is always right.

Overall, the products and gift box would make a fantastic treat for yourself or for someone you love for the holiday season and you support a company with fantastic core values to boot! You have to love that!

Fisher-Price Kid Tough DVD Player

Fisher Price has done it again and they have released another great kid-tough product. This year they have released a DVD player that will be able to handle a royal beating from your toddler. As a personal fan of their kid-tough camera, I was excited to see how the new DVD Player worked.

This DVD player is built from sturdy heavy-duty materials that can handle plenty of abuse. Each unit comes with a rechargeable battery & charger, which holds a charge for about two hours.

The screen size is 3.2″ and has a color LCD screen on it with simple controls that make it easy for children to use. It also has a handle where kids can tote or hold the unit while they watch their movies or you can use the kickstand legs on the unit for hands-free viewing.

Not included with this player is a video out cable for the television, but if purchased, your child can watch their movies through their own DVD player on the regular television.

The main issue with it, as a parent of a destructive toddler, is that your child can take their own movies in and out and a parent safety latch would be great for keeping the movie in there, but still allowing your child the “controls” of stopping and starting their own shows. Because of this reason, it makes it a toy that requires more parental supervision to insure that we don’t ruin our precious Dora movies that would be played on it.

The screen size is small, but understandably so in order to make this portable for little hands. This toy has a steeper price tag, but would work great for a family that doesn’t want to make an investment in a DVD unit for the car, but wants to be able to take their child’s entertainment on the road.

Of course, my parents used to have us entertain ourselves and we laughingly referred to our car as the “blue prison” on our treks to visit the family in Florida. Perhaps something like this would have saved my parents from yelling at us so much.

A big thank you to Walmart & Fisher Price for giving us the opportunity to review one of the hottest 12 toys for Christmas ’08!
