Review: Tempur-Pedic Comfort Pillow & Neck Pillow

comfort-pillow1The Tempur-Pedic company contacted us to see if we would be interested in reviewing their Comfort Pillow and Neck Pillow to offer our opinion on these two products. To be honest, I was not familiar with the company and had never tried any memory foam product before so I did not know what to expect. I was anxious to see though if these products would offer the great night’s sleep that they claimed. I should also mention that I suffer from back issues so I wanted to see if this would offer the support that my body needs at night and would allow me to wake up feeling refreshed, rather than that hit-by-the-train feeling I usually have.

The first thing I noticed when removing the Comfort Pillow was how heavy it was. It is the heaviest pillow I have ever felt in my life. In fact, my husband & I have decided that if anyone tries to pick a pillow fight with any of our kids, they can call dibs on this pillow. The pillow itself though is a standard size that comes with a washable cover.

The next thing I noticed was the smell of the pillow. There is a very distinct chemical smell which dissipated after a week of using it, but if you are sensitive to smells, you might want to give this pillow some time to air out.

The neck pillow, on the other hand, is very small and is a contoured pillow, intended to hug your neck into place while you are sleeping. I let my husband test drive that pillow for a week while I test drove the comfort pillow for a week.

neck-pillowThe Comfort Pillow took me a good three days to adjust to. I like pillows that my body can sink into and due to this pillow’s “girth” (for lack of a better word), it is not a pillow your body immediately sinks into. The technology in the pillow allows the pillow to adapt and conform around your head and is triggered by your body warmth in shaping the pillow. According to their website, “Their patented integration of multiple layers of TEMPUR material with different base materials provides a variable balance of pressure-relieving comfort and therapeutic support.”

After the first three days though, my body has adjusted to this new pillow and I am actually loving sleeping on it. It has begun to conform to me and I am sleeping more soundly and waking up without my usual back aches and pains. It did take awhile for me to adjust to it, but has been worth the wait now that I am waking up feeling more refreshed than I was with my usual pillow.

My husband happened to have some neck problems the week we received it so he was the perfect product tester. For him, this pillow was very hard and he had a lot of trouble adjusting it. This particular pillow that we received is meant for back sleepers (although they do make a specific one for the side sleeper). Within a couple of days, his neck pain was resolved, but he is not planning to use the pillow except for these types of situations because it was not comfortable for him.

These pillows are of an excellent quality, but do come at a much higher price than other pillows because of the technology that has been built into them. I would definitely recommend them if you suffer from any type of back or neck injury because it has made all the difference in the world for me, but would consider this investment carefully if you do not have any medical issues.
