Thank you so much for entering our giveaway. We would like to congratulate Jenn (Commenter #140) on being our winning entry. Jenn said:
“We love to use a family fun night as a reward system for our daughters good grades and behavior. She of course has no idea that they just as important to us as they are fun for her.
We start the day before with her giving us her list of movie choices, we decided on a dinner that we can all three prepare and make together as well as enjoy. After dinner we play a board or card game and talk about what has been happening lately at school and our work. Then we pile in the living room together in our pj’s with a bowl of popcorn and enjoy a movie together. For us, it’s all about the listening. We learn so much more about our daughter and what she is thinking on those nights then any other time.”
What a great entry, Jenn! We loved hearing about your family nights and hope to offer many more great giveaways here each Tuesday!
I am so excited about this giveaway and getting an opportunity to share a fun family night opportunity! Walmart has started a great program called, “Family Moments,” that encourages families to spend an evening together at home instead of spending money out on the town. With an affordable line of board games, family movies, and fun snacks, you can now enjoy a family night at home for $40 or less! The best part about it though is that this family night can be repeated over and over again once you have the games and movies on hand.
They sent our family a $40 gift card and we had a fantastic night together. I picked up Ratatouille and Blokus for our family night. In honor of our theme, we cooked a pizza together, watched our fun movie, and then had popcorns and homemade slushies for our snack. After the kids headed to bed, my hubby and I enjoyed playing Blokus and spent some time together over our board game. It was a wonderful evening that we can enjoy for many years and I was able to keep under the $40, even with a fantastic Disney movie and a more expensive board game.
Walmart also has set up a Family Game Night Center at their Walmart stores. This display offers savings on several board games, movies, and snacks including:
- $8 board games- Candyland,Chutes and Ladders, Yahtzee
- $10 board games- Jenga, Monopoly,Trouble
- $15 board games-Life, Operation and Twister
- $18-Bop It, Monopoly Championship, Pictureka, Sorry Sliders
and $10 movies include:
• Camp Rock
• The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
• Dinosaur
• Enchanted
• Hercules
• High School Musical (1 and 2)
• Homeward Bound (1 and 2)
• The Game Plan
• National Treasure (1 and 2)
• Pirates of the Caribbean (all 3)
We want to give away, to one lucky reader, a $40 gift card to Walmart to create your own fun family night. The contest is a quick one so you can experience the Family Game Night Center. Leave me a comment and tell me your favorite family night activity by 09/23/09 (Wednesday) at 8PM EST. The more creative the entry, the better!

On our Family Fun Night, we love to make BBQ chicken pizza, microwave s’mores and crystal light lemonade. Our motto is NO VEGGIES!
My daughter made a Star Wars version of “Guess Who?” using the little pictures on the sides of her Lego boxes. We’re having fun with questions like, “Does your person have fur?” (Ewoks or Chewbacca!!!) Thanks for the giveaway!
We have diverse ages in our family. The little ones love a game of go fish, or a memory game. My older daughter and I play Scrabble Slam which is a highly addictive fast paced card game and lots of fun. It’s fun to have time with the little ones and then play more advanced games with our older daughter when they go to bed. It’s nice to give her some extra attention and time.
Playing scrabble board games and eating popcorn. What could possibly be better?
We love to break out movies we’ve made on different family vacations. Our kids will watch them over and over, and it reminds us of fun times we’ve had together.
We also have movie nights a lot, complete with popcorn and picnics on the floor in front of the TV.

Sorry. I don’t know why that foreign exchange market thing popped on there. You can delete my comments if you’d like. I just wanted you to know that I wasn’t trying to sell anything.
I love family movie night! We let the kids take turns picking out movies to watch, pop some popcorn, dim the lights and enjoy the show! My hubby and I decided that it was easier to allow the child who picked the movie to ask as many questions as they would like so we wouldn’t have to keep saying, “Shhh.” With the permission to ask away, it’s actually much quieter! LOL
Thanks,
Dawn S
Laughing our butts off when playing competitive games! It never fails that something hilarious will happen when you’re playing a board game or wii game.
We usually do Family Movie Nights, but since our girls are getting older I suspect we’ll add in Game night as well. They love to play UNO already…. perhaps it’s time to give game night a try! Thanks for the chance.
We love playing any of the Scene It games, but we do away with the board and just play the ‘party’ version. We split up into 2 teams (Team Mickey and Team Minnie when we play any of the Disney or Pixar Scene Its). We do pizza or if I’m not too worn out, a favorite meal of the boys (tacos, ‘baby burgers’ aka sliders, or even spaghetti). We keep it simple and just have fun!
Game nights with lots of food and falling asleep in front of a movie
Our family enjoys having a simple meal, playing games, watching a movie and staying up late. We especially have fun when we “camp out” in the living room. We drag out every pillow and blanket in the house and all sleep on the floor. It’s a great time for all!
Watching a good movie, lots of popcorn or we order a pizza and settle down to watch a good movie. Sometimes it may be a game of Sorry on the weekends

Speed Scrabble and popcorn!
Go fish is a big hit at our house!
Since my son is one-year-old, we tend to read books, chase him through his tunnel, and go to the park a lot. Once he is in bed my hubby and I like to play scrabble.
Our family enjoys having puzzle wars. We divide into teams and each team has a puzzle with the same amount of pieces the 1st to finish the puzzle wins!
We love doing a movie night and have popcorn. We also enjoy doing the family game night too.
Our little one is still too young for a game night….but we did start a family movie night last week and watched her first Disney feature film….she picked Dumbo! It was so much fun! I can imagine the creativity we’ll have as she gets older.
When the weather is good, our favorite activity is just to play in the backyard. My kids are 1 & 3 so anything structured just doesn’t work yet. My husband and I hang out on a blanket on the grass and the kids get our undivided attention.
Our favorite Fall family night involves a caramel apple buffet (tons of toppings in bowls and you make up the perfect caramel apple), a fire in the fire pit in the backyard, snuggling up inside with cocoa and a movie. Love it!

Currently with the nice fall like weather, we play a game of horse outside with basketball. . .but for family night inside we really like dvd bingo. currently we have the nick theme one that they love to play. . it’s great both for the 4 & 11 year old.
We have movie night. Pizza for supper then on with the flick. We take turns choosing the evening’s entertainment.
We don’t have a ‘designated’ game night but at least once a week my son and I cop a squat on the living room floor and play games while watching a movie together.
we love to cook together. my 3YO daughter is an ardent chef!
Our favorite is to watch DVDs or play Karaoke.
Our family nights typically involve some sort of art project- our 2 1/2 yr old is always wanting to finger paint or use water colors. His other love is water skiing- so we usually end up watching my husbands old show ski videos. we’re looking forward to getting some board games now that he’s getting to that age.
My son is only 3, but we’ve already started having family game nights. We gather round our kitchen table with a big bowl of popcorn, pretzels or other yummy treat and spend time together playing our game. Since Jackson is only 3, we usually wind up playing by his new rules rather than the ones printed on the box. And that’s just fine. It’s about spending time together, not who wins or loses or how we play. (Unless his Dad and I are playing Scrabble and then it’s very important that I win!)

On our family nights we invite the extended family…my mother and my sisters who come with their husbands and their children. My husband usually grills (everyone…well us ladies) cook the sides. We have a nice sized yard, so we have a “game area” were that children play baseball, jump rope, have water balloon fights, play frisby and kick ball. When the sun starts to set and the mosquitoes come out we head inside were we have dessert and play Karaoke (it’s free because it’s included with our cable package)I have printed the song titles and we have our “official” Karaoke list. We also give away a prize to the winner of the contest (which consist of a basket that has a small gift that each family has contributed. We do this every other month or so…Everyone has a great time!
We love to build our Geotrax train sets together, and then when it is finally built, run the train around the tracks and then put it all away for next time.
We get Daddy to pick up some pizza on his way home from work, play a game or two afterwards, then settle in for a Netflix movie and some popcorn (and other sweet treats, of course)!

We enjoy TV shows as a family rather than a movie night. Right now Heroes is the show are family is watching together. This way we have a weekly sit down without incurring the cost of a $10 movie(we do occasionally rent at the redbox movies like Wolverine but it isn’t a routine thing).
My kids vary in age so up until recently games are a challenge. I did pick up Hyperdash recently and am considering Boochie for an outdoor game. I also think the new connect 4 looks interesting as well as the game Querf, which seems somewhat reminiscent of the cranium games my kids have enjoyed. If I won that would probably be what I invest in.
We like to make pizzas on the grill and then play some boards games outside. We also use flashlights at it get darker. Our favorite game is Sorry and Trouble but we love trying new games too.
We do movies the most for Family Night, but we also play games. I love that walmart has the $10 dvd selections! We could also use a new game to add to the mix!
We like to play Cranium’s Cadoo game together on family fun night.
Our latest fun game is sorry sliders. The boys love to knock me off the board.
We live right next to a park. We love taking the kids over right after dinner. It is nice relaxation time for us and the kids run themselves tired.
Well, right now it’s just me and hubby until our adoption is finalized, but we certainly plan on having game nights!
We love to use a family fun night as a reward system for our daughters good grades and behavior. She of course has no idea that they just as important to us as they are fun for her.

We have family movie night. We let the girls pick out a movie, all pile up in the living room with popcorn and cuddle. It is so much fun!
My family loves card games, UNO and Skip Bo are two favorites. We do friday pizza nights, and sometimes sundaes on Sundays.
We are planning a fall trip to visit Mt Vernon (among other places) and the National Treasure 2 has lots of Mt Vernon footage. I would get this movie for sure if I win!
I do games and movies as family nite when my granddaughter comes to visit! We love Uno and puzzles the most right now – She gets her own huge bowl of popcorn and doesn’t have to share (I think her Daddy helps finish hers at home!) Would love to win the gift certificate so her and I could go get some new games.
Family game night immediately brings to mind my late grandmother, who used to play UNO with our whole family. It was so much fun, and she would always pretend to not remember the rules so that she could sneak in a blue card on a green card or something. It was great fun to try to catch her at it! She frequently won, and then, even at almost 90 years old, would do a little dance and sing her “I won!” song. Those kinds of fond memories are the ones that a family game night can bring, and I hope that having a game night for our family will be just as fun. (Hopefully without all of the cheating!)
Right now our favorite family night activity is making smores over our firepit. We make homemade pizzas and have a movie night as well. DD is 2 1/2 so the movie is for her and we spread blankets on the food and all lay there together munching on popcorn. DD is just now showing interest in games so would be great to win! Thanks for the chance at a great and fun giveaway!
We love to bowl with our 2 year old with a little bowling set he got.
We love playing games together. My oldest is just 3.5, so we play games that he likes, like “go fish” and “Sorry.” He also likes to “play” chess with his dad!
We don’t have a set family night – basically every night is family night at our house!
Our daughter is only 2 1/2, and I work outside the home, so evening is the time I get to spend with her. We play with playdoh and find matches in her I spy book, read books…whatever we feel like doing on a particular night! Oh! She does have a game that she loves – Can Do Roo. It’s a fun game!
i have a 8, 6, and 2 year old. our favorite is homemade pizza! then brownies! and of course a game while everything cooks!!! and then a good family healthy movie and having and slumber party in the den all together!!!
We have been playing more and more games lately. My son loves Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Bingo, and Wii Bowling. Sometimes we watch a movie. Sometimes daddy reads a Bible story as well.
