game night

Thank you so much for entering our giveaway. We would like to congratulate Jenn (Commenter #140) on being our winning entry. Jenn said:

“We love to use a family fun night as a reward system for our daughters good grades and behavior. She of course has no idea that they just as important to us as they are fun for her.

We start the day before with her giving us her list of movie choices, we decided on a dinner that we can all three prepare and make together as well as enjoy. After dinner we play a board or card game and talk about what has been happening lately at school and our work. Then we pile in the living room together in our pj’s with a bowl of popcorn and enjoy a movie together. For us, it’s all about the listening. We learn so much more about our daughter and what she is thinking on those nights then any other time.”

What a great entry, Jenn! We loved hearing about your family  nights and hope to offer many more great giveaways here each Tuesday!

I am so excited about this giveaway and getting an opportunity to share a fun family night opportunity! Walmart has started a great program called, “Family Moments,” that encourages families to spend an evening together at home instead of spending money out on the town. With an affordable line of board games, family movies, and fun snacks, you can now enjoy a family night at home for $40 or less! The best part about it though is that this family night can be repeated over and over again once you have the games and movies on hand.

They sent our family a $40 gift card and we had a fantastic night together. I picked up Ratatouille and Blokus for our family night. In honor of our theme, we cooked a pizza together, watched our fun movie, and then had popcorns and homemade slushies for our snack. After the kids headed to bed, my hubby and I enjoyed playing Blokus and spent some time together over our board game. It was a wonderful evening that we can enjoy for many years and I was able to keep under the $40, even with a fantastic Disney movie and a more expensive board game.

Walmart also has set up a Family Game Night Center at their Walmart stores. This display offers savings on several board games, movies, and snacks including:

  • $8 board games- Candyland,Chutes and Ladders, Yahtzee
  • $10 board games- Jenga, Monopoly,Trouble
  • $15 board games-Life, Operation and Twister
  • $18-Bop It, Monopoly Championship, Pictureka, Sorry Sliders

and $10 movies include:

• Camp Rock
• The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
• Dinosaur
• Enchanted
• Hercules
• High School Musical (1 and 2)
• Homeward Bound (1 and 2)
• The Game Plan
• National Treasure (1 and 2)
• Pirates of the Caribbean (all 3)

We want to give away, to one lucky reader, a $40 gift card to Walmart to create your own fun family night. The contest is a quick one so you can experience the Family Game Night Center. Leave me a comment and tell me your favorite family night activity by 09/23/09 (Wednesday) at 8PM EST. The more creative the entry, the better!

my little one is only 2 so we tend to enjoy backyardigans and building blocks…not to mention a nice dinner at the dinner table w/ no tv!

Our family nights include pizza, smores and popcorn (if we watch a movie). We love to play dominoes and get everyone involved!

Family night at my house is eating dinner together, sitting and talking for a bit and then a fun game of Bananagrams or Scrabble.

Our son is 16 months old & he loves to play. We spend every evening playing games and interacting as much as possible but on Sunday evening we have “cuddle time”. We make a pallet on the floor of the living room and we watch one of his favorite movies (Finding Nemo or Madagascar). It is something I will always cherish and hope to continue as he and our family grows!

Our family game night can range on any day or night of the week. If it happens during the week, it usually consists of the family gathered on the floor playing chutes and ladders, monopoly, trouble, or guess who (extra. My son loves to play games. If it happens on a Sunday, it’s usually the family gathered around the kitchen table, playing Uno Spin. That is really fun, my son, who was around 6 then really got the hang of playing it. It was just too cute. Thanks for the opportunity to share our family night and I really thank you for the chance to win some new games and such.

Last family night we had been reading some old books and learned how to play “Blind Man’s Bluff.” It was one of the funniest games we have ever done. It didn’t even cost a thing. Even Better!

Our family game nights vary, but we love to do video scavenger hunts. Our family can be out and do things for free around our time! When we are at home, we get lots of bright candy and make popcorn and play Apples to Apples or Scattergories.

On my favorite Family Fun night we usually order some pizza and play Disney’s Scene it or the game Clue. We watch movies and curl up on the couch. Its always a blast!

Family fun night is something my husband and I just started. My daughter just turned 3. So we really can’t play anything too difficult. But we love to get together and on friday nights and play Candyland. She just loves it!

Our family fun night is pretty simple right now. We do a TON of crafty stuff. I get out a big tote of pom poms, pipe cleaners, foam pieces, construction paper, crayons, marker, scissors, glue, etc…and go to town! After everything is picked up, we get to watch a movie. So far (since my kids are 3 months, 2 1/2, and 4) Dora has been the go-to movie. I would LOVE to add a movie to the mix!

Our favorite family night activity is to rent a great family movie, order pizza, and make popcorn.

Family night usually is on Saturdays. We start with a game of Scrabble which is perfect for three children ages 15 (almost) to 9. Everyone makes up their age appropriate word! This is followed by homemade pizzas (dough by Mom) which are topped with some our favorites like artichokes, olives, and pepperoni! Next, we view a fun filled family movie which is normally checked out at the library. Intermission is ice cream sundaes with homemade ice cream (this is Dad’s department). A wonderful, and inexpensive, evening is always enjoyed by all.

Tacos for dinner – Working together to make dinner – Playing board games together – ending with desert and a movie.

On our family nights we eat some pizza and break out the Wii. First we like to do our Wii fits to see who improves the most. Then we pick one of the sports on our Wii Sport or Wii Resort and have a play off to see who can get the highest scores.

We mostly do family movie nights. As it gets colder we sometimes pull out the air mattresses and sleeping bags for a living room sleepover. The girls love our spa nights. We put on our robes for manis and pedis. They like “styling” my hair.

Our favorite family nights are spent making pizza, then ice cream sundaes, a little bit of (sort of safe) wrestling, and then dad telling stories!!

We love to play games. Our kids are young, and some of the favorites are hungry hungry hippos, don’t break the ice, yahtzee. We also enjoy a fun treat like pudding or ice cream afterwards.

We love to watch a family movie together and have popcorn and rootbeer floats or playing a game together is also on the top of our favorite things to do. We love playing Sorry, Uno, and Pigs.

Since I’m a solo, family game nights are limited to when I’m visiting my sister and her family or my aunt and cousins. When I’m with the nephews we play 3-handed “War,” with my aunt and older cousins it’s Scrabble, and with the younger kids and the great-aunts it’s Uno.

We have Saturdays as our family days. We usually wake up, have breakfast, go to Farmer’s Market, then go to yard sales. My 3 year old loves yard sales. She has her purse with change; she gets the best deals because she’s so cute! We have lunch then nap. The rest of the afternoon is spent in Dad’s workshop building things. We end the day with dinner and a movie or a trip to the beach to watch the sunset. We love our family days are so fortunate to have the weekends with each other! <3

Friday night is a relaxed night at our house. Homemade pizza with pick you own toppings and we play a game or watch a movie. Family favorite game is Apples to apples. My youngest, who can barely read, ends up winning most of the time! He plays the funniest cards and doesn’t even know it.I love to hear everyone laugh after a long exhausting week.

  23. 173

My kids are young so they go to bed early and are always home so every evening is family night! But when bedtime is 7 there isn’t a whole lot of popcorn and movies going on around here!

  24. 174

We have movie night quite often with popcorn or ice cream. We used to have grand Game parties with our friends years ago but they’ve drifted off! As a family we love to play Cranium games that get you moving then watch a fun Movie!

  25. 175

Our kids are pretty little… so our fav family night is a quick Elmo movie with some popcorn — then when the kids are off to sleep it’s time for a mommy/daddy movie!
