kathyfriend

Thank you to everyone who entered our contest. We would like to congratulate Laurie (Commenter #23) on winning this prize. Thank you again to Kathy for sharing her talent with us!

I have a really amazing giveaway to offer this week that could definitely get your New Year started out right. Local fashionista and my personal friend, Kathy Friend, wanted to do a giveaway with our readers and give one lucky reader an online shape & fit consultation.

The online shape & fit consultation would be an assessment of your shape, and Kathy would offer advice on what your shape is (i.e. rectangle, triangle, ‘X’ etc.), what styles and cuts will look good on you, what styles and cuts you should NEVER wear etc.  She will also offer you tips for tops, skirts, pants, jackets, dresses, shoes and accessories.

The winner would need to complete a questionnaire and send her a current photo.  She then will call  and offer a one-on-one consultation over the phone, and follow that up with an online style sheet that is personalized just for you.

Kathy came over to my house this week and did this assessment with me and it was very eye-opening for me. I was not even wearing the right sizes on things and now I know exactly what colors to wear that will flatter me best, how to up my best attributes, and also how to whittle down the attributes that aren’t my strong point. We were able to sit down and talk about my own personal style (busy mom with business at-home) and find a wardrobe that would suit me best. Her advice was so invaluable and I look forward to thrift shopping armed with this information in hand. Perhaps, the most eye-opening of all was that I wasn’t even wearing the right undergarments to start a good foundation for my wardrobe, despite being fitted numerous times at the mall.  This information will not only make me look better, but it will also help me to feel more confident when I am out and about. I don’t think you can put a price tag on that!

This prize is offered at $50 and will give you everything you need to find the most flattering styles for you.

To enter, please tell me your biggest fashion dilemma or why you could really use Kathy’s advice. You can leave a comment until Tuesday (01/21) at 8PM EST.  Good luck to each of you!

I could really use Kathy’s advice. After being pregnant 4 times in 4 years I have very few clothing items that fit (and even that is questionable). Any time I decide to go buy something I get so overwhelmed since I don’t know what my style/size is anymore after wearing so many maternity clothes. I would definitely love to win this contest!

I could use this b/c I’m currently losing weight and my figure seems to be changing. I’m not sure how to maximize what I have or what to buy in the mean time….

What a generous and useful prize! I sure could use Kathy’s advice regarding how to make quality decisions that last over time for casual or everyday wear. I seem to be either over dressed or far under dressed and never feel fully confident that I’ve hit the right note. My look is either too plain and boring or too over the top. Being an apple shaped, overweight person, I would also appreciate insight into choosing the “right” jeans and other clothing to minimize my tummy and flatter anything worth flattering. Thanks for the opportunity to be considered!

I am also in the process of losing weight and trying to maximum the wardrobe. This is especially difficult with a large chest and long torso. And I have the added challenge that I am trying to buy as few new things as possible this year to really be mindful of my consumption and financially responsible. Is there a way to best fit yourself when you are looking at second-hand clothing?

My biggest dilemma… I am in the middle of surgeries, and have big thighs, and smaller hips, waist, and wide shoulders…trying to find something that flatters me is a problem.

I really need help. I just had 2 little boys in 20 months. And I am still squeezing myself into my pre-pregnancy clothes, with a few new jeans. And I always stay within the same safety styles and colors. Grays, Blues, & Blacks. Mostly T-shirt and jeans. Please, please help me.

Since I’m currently pregnant I don’t know if I could use this, but I would love it for my mom. She is beautiful, but doesn’t dress herself up to her potential. I don’t feel like I can tell her when stuff doesn’t look good on her without hurting her feelings so I would love for her to have a consultation with someone that could.

Thank you for entering me in this giveaway. I had no trouble picking out clothes for myself before having my children. But now, my body has changed so much. It is a challenge to pick out flattering outfits.I need help.

I could really use this– I’ve lost all my pregnancy weight now (my little one is 4 months) but my shape is very different from before. Although I’m still exercising and trying to eat healthy, it’s tough to look at my body and just feel unsatisfied. Also, I work part time from home and could really use some guidance as to a mom/employee wardrobe for when I meet with clients.

    Amy,
I’ll be 50 this year and I would love, love, love to update my look so I won’t fall into the frump of it all.
Thanks for offering such an awesome giveaway.
    Peace,
    Lynne in NC

I would love to win this – but to donate it to my amazing 40-something mother. She is beautiful but doesn’t realize it – or now how to maximize it because her wardrobe is quite old fashioned and because she feels overweight she just wears MORE fabric/clothing/layers to cover it instead of wearing the RIGHT fabric/clothing/layers to enhance her beautiful features! Thanks!

I really need this! My body shape has changed so much over the years – having seven kids can do that, you know. We live so far out in the country I have to do almost all of our clothes shopping online. I have no earthly idea what size I really am, what looks good on my body, or even the correct size bra I should be wearing.

Keeping my fingers crossed for this one!!!

Hi I feel like I really need a change because I just had my baby boy 7 months ago and ever since then I basically walk around in my pajamas. I’m kind of tired to wearing the same old clothes. Ready for a change and tips on how to flatter my shape and size.

  17. 17

This is becoming a issue for me, finding the right fit for jeans and tops is fustrating. I need help!

  18. 18

My biggest dilemma was I was trying to work on my weight since 2003. I got pregnant in 2005 and while I gained little….I got the flat tire around the middle in the end. Then when my son turned 1 I found out I was pregnant again. That said I am just now getting into a new routine and all I have is t-shirts and jeans that fit. I can’t find dress clothes that fit me in the right places.

  19. 19

I am always changing up my style…but this new post preggie tummy has me running away from every mirror in site lately and Im looking to get back into my cute clothes again

  20. 20

My biggest fashion dilemma besides trying to deal with post-baby weight is that I can never find pants that fit. I’m only five-eleven! It should be this impossible right?

  21. 21

I would love to win this! I could use Kathy’s advice since I have not updated my style in, um, forever…I’m still wearing some of the same clothes, with the same sort of style, that I wore in high school: over 20 years ago! I would love to look good on a budget, and this is actually one of the areas I really want to work on this year!

  22. 22

well, I’m 42 and a mom of two……I used to dress kind of hip…..now I fear that I’ve settled into a frump. I’ll admit it….I need an intervention.

  23. 23

I could really use help “starting over”. In the span of just over four months I went through brain surgery and surgery for invasive skin cancer. I am doing great now but, like other people who have faced a medical crisis, I had a lot of bills to wade through. I really haven’t bought anything for a long time. I would like my outward appearance to reflect how great I feel inside! A little guidance to start me off in the right direction would be a great help!

  24. 24

I need to learn how to cover my tummy. I have always had a bit of a tummy but since kids it is my biggest clothing challenge. Also, I hate having butt crack when I am wearing my jeans. I spend a lot of time on the floor playing with kids and I don’t want to feel the cool breeze down the bottom of my back!

  25. 25

Oh I would love to have a consultation with an expert! I work out every morning, and after am busy the rest of the day with a preschooler and toddler. I end up spending the entire day in my workout clothes! They are the only things that fit me anymore. I am in desperate need of an update; I want to be the cool mom and better show the results of my hard work.

  26. 26

My biggest fashion dilemma if finding clothes that fit my shape that are easy to take care of and look good, especially for work. I also want to look my age and not older.

  27. 27

Hello! I recently went from a size 12 to a 6 and am trying to determine what looks best on me with my new shape. I love to stay on trend, but would also like to incorporate some of the classics that I already own.

  28. 28

I wear mostly jeans and sweatshirts to hide myself behind. I have gained about 30 pounds these last few years and would love to feel good about myself again. I don’t want to make myself look bigger than I am by wearing the wrong clothes but so many clothes now a days are skin tight and are so not flattering.
    Thanks so much.
    Jodi

  29. 29

First I have to say how right you are about having your proper bra size!! My boobs were doing all kinds of things during preg, postpreg, nursing, and post nursing. When they finally settled down I got remeasured and found I needed to get a smaller size than prepreg, and it has made ALL the difference in how my clothes fit & look.

Anyway, I would love to get suggestions on the types/styles of clothes that are best for my body. I’m wearing the right size (at least I think I am) but I’m not always sure I’m wearing the right “cut”, style or pattern that flatters me most (my husband has been known to complain about my patterns).

    Thank you!

  30. 30

I have no idea what size I am, what looks good on my body, or even the correct size bra I should be wearing. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

  31. 31

I need serious help finding a bra that fits. After breastfeeding two children, this seems like an impossible task!

  32. 32

I hate bra shopping. I’ve been fitted numerous times, tried on dozens of bras, been told by these women who have supposedly been trained in proper fit that what I’ve got on is “perfect,” only to come home and wear a bra that is.not.comfortable!

I can’t stand shopping at all, because nothing ever seems to look or fit right.

  33. 33

I feel like, after all these years, I still haven’t settled into a style that’s really “me”. I tend to be too eclectic, and often make decisions based on price instead of what I truly love and feel great in. I’m unsure of which colors to wear, and so I sometimes buy colors that just don’t really work, or else I still with the same old, same old, because I’m scared to try something new. Plus, I just feel like a frumpy mommy sometimes, and I’d love to figure out how to have a bit more style even when I’m at home most of the time and on a limited budget. Kathy, I need your help! :)

  34. 34

This giveaway would help meet one of my urgent needs that is literally creating stress for me at work! For the past 3 years my boss has commented that he feels my dress attire at work needs to change. He gives me suggestions of whose style I should emulate, I go out and spend a couple hundred bucks on a new wardrobe only to have him restate the same issue a few months later. My clothing matches (sometimes identically) what others are wearing at work, so I know I’m not violating a dress code. Because I’m overweight and don’t want to draw TOO much attention to my “rolls” I don’t wear clothes too tight and my beliefs call me to wear clothing that is modest, so I know it is not an “inappropriate” issue. So that leads me to believe that it is a “it doesn’t look right on you” issue. How to fix that with an extremely limited budget is my dilemma. Kathy Friend, please help! :)

  35. 35

I would really like this for my mom, b/c she is so self-conscious of what looks good on her and has a hard time trying to find clothes for herself.

  36. 36

well, I am tall and not a tiny girl, and finding things that fit me right all over is a challenge…and after being pregnant my body has changed…this would be fabulous!

  37. 37

I need some serious help! I have gained weight due to medical reasons and because of certain trageties that have happened in my life. I’ve tried diet after diet and nothing helps. My cloths don’t fit like they should.

  38. 38

oh my word…this giveaway makes my heart beat fast. i’m in a complete conundrum about clothes. i can’t even use the word fashion. it’s beyond not knowing what is fashionable…i have no idea what is ME! i’m a mom of two, i teach preschool, and i’m allergic to dressing up (though i would like to nice for church). i’ve resorted to yoga pants and a t-shirt, usually from a race i may or may not have run because i just.don’t.know. help?!

  39. 39

I could use Kathy’s advice for a lot of reasons. I’ll only list a couple though. My biggest one is the fact that I am in the process of losing weight. My body has changed so much from having kids and it is changing yet again. So even the clothes I could wear at this weight pre-kids don’t fit me right becuase of my new mommy shape. I also have a lot of the same clothes in my closet from high school – and I graduated 6 years ago. ;-)

  40. 40

My fashion dilemma is the fact I am a Stay at Home Mom and all I seem to put on is sweats of pj’s. And being a SAHM means there is only one income meaning the clothes in my closet have been there for some time now. My one pair of jeans just ripped in the crotch so that means it will be patched no new jeans for me just the kids and the working (outside the home) man.

  41. 41

I could use this as I have now lost my pregnancy weight, and my son will be 1 in 2 weeks! 15 lbs.! Things are definitely too big – and my bras just don’t fit right! Thanks!

  42. 42

When I shop I gravitate towards solids. Then I get home and feel dressed cause it’s hard to layer and look cute without prints. But, prints scare me. lol

I’m also guilty of shopping the junior department, just cause I don’t know where I fall. At age 24 and the mother of a toddler, I know I should be in the Miss section, but I just can’t seem to find things I like.

I want to dress classic, not trendy. But, I don’t want to look 40 either… :-)

  43. 43

I cant sseem to loose weight I try and try and really cant seem to loose any. I have had 2 children that are 18 months apart and dont have any thing that fits i end up crying if i try to go shopping because i get so discouraged trying on stuff that doesnt fit and I use to love to dress up for my husband and now well all he sees me in is tshirts that are really big and frmpy and maternity jeans that i shouldnt be wearing , but i wear them because i get so hurt when i try to go look for new clothes . It really is puttig a strain on my marriage because he tells me i have no excuse not to look the way i did when we met i am a stay at home mother and wife . but he doesnt realize what have 2 kids htat cloe together does to a person . Please help me . thanks amanda

This would be great for me. I went from factory work to working in the medical field seeing patients daily. I don’t buy clothes because they don’t feel right after getting them home. I don’t go to the banquets or out with girls because nothing fits right. This is an awesome giveaway.

  45. 45

I am constantly buying dress pants that end up hanging in my closet because the waist gaps in the back or the length is too long/short. I am pear shaped, but I can’t imagine that I am in the only woman with this shape. I can’t seem to find a clothing line that recognizes the shape of a woman.

  46. 46

Pants are my biggest challenge! I have skinny legs and I like pants that are more fitted, but I can’t find any. I’m tired of wearing jeans to church in the winter, but I have no alternatives. Help!

  47. 47

Help! I have completely fell into the world of being a SAHM. Since I have had kids, I basically live in black yoga pants, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. I really have no idea what looks good on me or what is stylish these days. In fact, my sister went shopping for me and bought me a couple of shirts last week as after I told her what I wore out for New Years she must have felt sorry for me. :)

Thanks for the opportunity for such a great give-away. The winner will be very lucky!

  48. 48

Wow, this is so timely. My biggest problem is that I don’t know how to determine my body type. I’ve also recently quit working to stay home with our kids and feel like I need a new wardrobe, but don’t know where to begin.

  49. 49

Keeping up with the fashion. Seems I always get what’s in when it is on it’s way out. Probably becuase that is when it is the least expensive. :-)

  50. 50

I could definately use this! I have lost about 30 lbs doing WW and most of my clothes are too big. Pants and bras are the hardest for me. Hubby keeps telling me to go shopping, but it is so hard to find clothes that fit properly! Thanks for this fantastic giveaway!!
