Hi Heather, I LOVE my crock pot too!  Unfortunately, only after 8 years my crock pot just went on the fritz.  It was a Rival, which I thought was the original...do you have a brand you like?  I'm going to be buying a new one soon and could use some suggestions!  It's funny, I had my mom's that she had received as a wedding gift for years, and it was still working after 37 years but I donated it since it was small and the crock didn't come out.  That is what I get for wanting the added convenience!

Take care,
Steph

Steph,

They have so many cool slow cookers out now. I just got a new one recently so I have two now for when I am entertaining. This is the link to the one I got:

I really like it. you can lock the lid and it has  rubber seal on it so nothing falls out when you take it places. It seemed like we were always toting it around so this made it a little safer. The spoon fits on top and it has a place to put in labels so you don't have mystery dishes when you go to a big gathering Smiley

I have also seen neat ones that you can actually serve out of too. There are even advanced models that keep track of the internal temperature of the meat so it sets itself to warm when it hits the perfect temp. Isn't that amazing?

Didn't mean to go on a tangent- just a fun thing to talk about!

I use the Rival Versaware 6 qt. crockpot. It's great because you can use the crockpot insert on the stovetop to brown meat or stir fry and then replace it in the crockpot base to slow cook or just keep warm. I paid 39.95, now it's down to 29.90 at hsn. It has 5 star reviews. It's the only crock pot I've ever really liked, and I've bought several and just gave them away when I found this one. Check it out here:

I have THREE crock pots!!!!!  I 2 large ones ( one is Rival the other is West Bend) and 1 small one.  We like to have people over for cookouts in the summer... we have one almost every other week.... and I use all three every time.  I generally use my West bend to cook our supper in.... not that I am brand particular, it is just the newest (to me) one I have and is in the best shape.  My rival I got as a wedding gift (12 years ago) and I have worn it out!!!!!!  The knob is broke, the lid is cracked and it doesn't look that pretty!  LOL!!!  For me the key to choosing a crock pot is picking the right size for your family.  Also the removable crock is a MUST!  I got my west bend at a garage sale and I got my SMALL one one year on the day after thanksgiving mad house sales!  I could really use a new one to replace my OLD one... it is almost embarrassing to use with company, it just still works fine!!  LOL!!

I am not using my secret weapon today, (we are having home made pizza) but I will be using it this weekend to make a roast (venison).  I use my crock pot at least 3 times a week!

A WAY EASY recipe:

BBQ Chicken
1) throw some chicken breasts in the crock pot
2) dump a bottle of BBQ sauce on top
3) put the lid on and cook all day on low
4) forget about it till you are ready to eat

I also do the same with pork.... EASY and YUMMY!!!!!!

I love my crock-pots too! I have a 5 quart, a 3 quart, a 6 quart and  1 1/2 quart.  I use the smallest for hot dips.  The 3 qt. for sides, the 5 qt. generally for meats and the 6 qt. for soups/stews!

Great post Heather! Blessings!!!!!

Thanks for the great suggestions, I am really looking forward to going crock pot shopping this weekend.  The one that just broke was a wedding gift 8 years ago, and came with a little crock that I love to put dips in (that still works).  I love the idea of being able to lock the lid on, we like to take our crock to potlucks or family dinners and that would be a real plus.  I definitely give our crockpot a workout, it's a great "secret weapon"!

Thanks again!
