Hey Amy, I was wondering if you had any tips on cleaning a charcoal grill. I'm in charge of the 4th of July B-B-Q (again) and my grill is a mess. Any tips would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Nicole we have a charcoal grill also its a very large one.   The grates on top of  the grill my dh uses a wire brush especially made for grills and he get the coals hot and then sprays PAM on them and then uses the brush and it cleans the crate really well.    On a cold grill he removes the ashes and dumps them and then uses non toxic fume easy off oven cleaner on the grill crates and where you put the charcoal.   Hope this helps

I clean ours using crumpled aluminum foil, it's easy, and works very well, a tip I got from the Reynolds wrap site. This summer they have an entire site devoted to grilling with lots of tips:http://www.alcoa.com/reynoldskitchens/en/home.asp  They even have a booklet you can download!
Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the tips. I don't mind the cooking, but I dread the clean up  Wink

Nicole,

The way that I clean my grill is a little bit differently, but it might make the job easier. I take the grill grates and throw them in my oven and run the self-cleaning mode. If you  have that on your oven (most ovens have them now), you can clean your grill grates and your oven at the same time!!

I hope that helps! I just got back in town so I apologize that I didn't get to your question sooner Smiley

Thanks again for the advice Amy. We got rained out this year on the 4th, so I didn't get to use my outdoor grill  Sad I did use my grill pan indoors though.
Hopefully I'll get out and grill again soon. Thanks again for all of your help and helpful advice too  Smiley
