My Best Friend Left Today

I was doing good. So much better than last year. We walked down to the bus stop and he looked up at me with his big brown eyes. "Mama, I am going to miss you so much!" He squeezed my hand and leaned into me.

I cried all the way back, tears dripping in my coffee.

This does not get easier.

"Cute pictures! It is so hard letting them go, isn't it? I couldn't let my kindergartener get on the bus. That big bus and my little guy? Oh my! Driving him instead helps us both get over the separation.

Hope your boy has a great day!"

"I have two children. When my oldest started school, it was fairly easy because I still had my son had home. He became my shopping and lunch buddy. When he started school two years later, I cried the first day. I went to TCBY, got my favorite dessert, and cried as I told the gal serving it up. She listened, I ate, and that's how I survived the day."

"Those pictures are just amazing! It's comforting to be going through this with some of my favorite online people. :) I just took Punky to her first full day of kindergarten."

"Oddly, I was fine when both of mine started Kindergarten. It's not until now, with my daughter one year away from middle school that I'm starting to feel a bit panicky. They were still babies at age 5--now she's a step away from young adulthood and THAT is sad and scary."
