CVS Shopping & Savings 08.18.08

Here is what I decided to purchase from the CVS flier this week-

Transaction #1:

1 Dove SkinVitalizer $9.99, get $3 ECB, used coupon (from this week's paper or available for printing here) for $3.50 off= $3.49
2 Sunsilk Products (one shampoo or conditioner & one styling aid item), $4.49 each, on sale for BOGO Free, used 2 coupons (from this week's paper) for $1.50 off one item= $1.40 for two or $.75 each
Then I used the $2 off $10 coupon
Total Spent OOP (out of pocket)= $6.85
Extra Care Bucks Credit- $3
Actual Cost- $3.85

Transaction #2:

Pepsi Products on Sale Buy Four (for $11), Get One Free

3 12-packs of Mt Dew
2 12-packs of Diet Cherry Pepsi
Total Cost= $11
Then I used the $2 off $10 coupon
Total Cost= $9, Total Cost Per 12-Pack= $1.80 each
For this transaction, I also used my ECB from last week's diapers purchase (and some ECB overage from the previous transaction) and they ended up owning me $.45. I grabbed a 3 Musketeers and we called it pretty much even!

Be sure to check Money Saving Mom this week for other scenarios. She is going to have the links up sometime later this week!

I did two separate transactions, but only made one trip. Do you guys do more than one trip or just ask them to ring it up separately? I just want to be respectful of the employee so I wondered how you guys do it?

"If I'm doing 2 separate transactions, I try to approach the cashier when she doesn't have a line and then just tell her that I'm doing 2 different transactions. This isn't usually a problem. If I have a question about my ECB's, I'll step aside so she can check out the other folks in line. Most of the time, though, I'll do one transaction and then head back to shop for the second one. Either way works!"

"Last week was my first week CVSing! I did 4 orders to make use of the $2.00/off $10 coupon and I bought one and then took the stuff to my car and came back in and got the rest."

"I always ask first if they are okay with me doing more than one transaction and I usually get a "yes." I figure that they are shoppers too and understand why I would be doing that for coupon/sale deals. I do make sure that I am organized though, with items and their corresponding coupons/ECBs divided up before I go to the cashier. I usually get compliments from the cashier on my savings and organization!"

"I never use more than one $2/$10 with the same cashier in the same visit. If I ask the cashier if I can split the transactions, it's usually because I need the ECBs from the first one to pay for the second one.

The way I use more than one of that coupon (because it says one per customer) is make a purchase at the pharmacy register--usually while picking up a refill--then go up to the front and do a second transaction, both times with the 2/10."

"Hi Amy!

I often do multiple transactions and agree with a lot of what Mary Ann said. I try to wait until they aren't as busy - and if they get busy, I let others go ahead. I also to try to be very organized about what goes in which order and which coupons I'm using for each. With my littles in tow - I can't shop for one transaction and then pay for it and then shop and then pay - but, I do try to respect the cashier as well. I always thank them for their extra time and when I'm just shy of using one of my ECB's - I have implemented an idea I read on Money Saving Mom - ask the cashier what her favorite kind of candy is and use it for a filler to reach my total. Win-win situation!

"I always ask the cashier if two transactions would be okay. They always say it's okay, but I never go over my two-transaction limit. If I have more than two transactions, I either come back to the same store on another day or I go to another CVS. I'm fortunate enough to have three within 30 miles. If we're out and about, I can usually work my CVSing in!"

"Amy,

Hoping you'd be interested in talking a bit about the importance of donating to local food pantries and community food banks...we have been hosting a $5 Charity Challenge with a $5 GC giveaway (partnering with with Coupon Cravings) and would love to get the word out! Can you help us?
