WSBT-TV: Easter on a Budget

Today on WSBT, I shared some tips and ideas for making Easter special on a budget. You can even get a sneak peek at what our kids will be wearing and how we manage to dress them well on a budget. This discussion goes along with our article, "Budget-Minded Easter Celebrations."

Thank you for all your great comments today. I have been out of town since 5:30 this morning (a business trip to Chicago for the day) and just got home this evening. I can't wait to catch up on all of my blog reading tomorrow and share more tips and ideas for our spring cleaning too!

"Those are great ideas.
I traditionally host an Easter egg hunt for the neices and nephews. I reuse the eggs and baskets. To fill the eggs, I rely on clearanced Christmas or Valentine candy (especially Hershey kisses). About a third of the eggs contain prize tickets. I wrap the prizes in tissue paper so no one truly knows what they're getting. The prizes come from Staples back to school sales where packs of pens and pencils and the like are either free or just a few pennies. Some prizes come from clearance bins in grocery and drug stores. If I need a few more prizes, then I hit the dollar store. Finally, a few eggs contain coins.
The oldest nephew is now 14, so I've been doing this a long time. He didn't think it was cool for a 14-year-old to hunt for EAster eggs, but he really wanted to participate. I let him help me hide the eggs and he got to pick a few beforehand so he could open something along with the little kids.
