Frugal Hacks: Take a Vacation? Why Not!

Editor's Note: This was written on Tuesday, but we have had some technical difficulties on Frugal Hacks. We are up and rolling now!

Today is my fun day because I get to do the news segment AND I get to guest write for Frugal Hacks. A magazine I got in my mail today gave me the idea for our topic. I am sharing frugal ways to vacation in your own state.

I am also looking for the best Miss America answer for what makes your state so great. I know, I know... but anyone who saw the Miss America pageant this year knows that this question is much better than asking our contestants questions about their feelings concerning Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, or Britney Spear's sister. Seriously? Seriously? How about an African American running for office? How about a woman running for office? How about the war in Iraq? How about educating our children? How about...Well, you get the idea. I think there are far more important issues at hand. Modernize the pageant, sure, but our women can still be smart AND hip!

Head over to Frugal Hacks and share your thoughts on your state there. If you have thoughts about the Miss America pageant and the lame questions this year, leave 'em here!

"My state is the best state in the US. We actually live in Upstate SC so we have great mountains. Within walking distance from our house is an awesome waterfall and we go there in the summer and play in the water. We hike quite a bit and it is all absolutely free. We are also 5 hours away from most of the beaches. We go there at least once in the summer/fall for a cheap vacation. It usually just cost us the place to stay as we cook and eat sandwiches. The beach is totally free and we go there day and night. There is always something free or low cost in our area. It is a great place to live. I always tell people we live where most people come to vacation. (There are rental vacation condos right down the road from us!) So SC is the best state."

"For many of the same reasons tami m. mentioned I'd have to vote for Georgia. We also have both mountains and beaches, historic Savannah, the Golden Isles of Jekyl Island and St. Simons, the southeast hub of Atlanta - home to some of the biggest attractions in the southeast United States, including the Georgia Aquarium, Six Flags, and professional sports venues. Atlanta is also home to the world's busiest airport.

Columbus, GA is home to AFLAC's duck, as well as Ft. Benning, one of the best-run US Army installations in the world.

The Okefenokee Swamp in south Georgia offers an opportunity to see all kinds of wildlife.

With its rich history, vibrant entertainment options and beautiful natural resources, who couldn't Georgia on their mind?"

"We live in Indiana... my favorite places to go are Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, Indiana... Indianapolis for the Zoo and White River Gardens.... Chicago (not techinically Indiana...but close enough), and Turkey Run State Park!
I've always wanted to visit Nashville...but I haven't made it that far yet!"
