Baby Steps: The Series

Since I wrote my article for Frugal Hacks, I have realized how far away I have come from discussing the basic steps I took towards saving our family money. Luckily, through my journey I have written articles that act as a document for frugal steps that I have taken. I am thankful that I did this because what was new to me then have become daily habits in my life.

I would love to start a baby steps series though and begin talking about ways to start saving money and would love your input. What are some topics that you would like to see covered here? I will cover anything that anyone is interested in and I promise to try to do it well.

Nothing is too little to discuss- all of these baby steps can add up to huge savings! Please share your input.

"I am pretty new to striving to be frugal so for me I try and do at least one frugal thing a day and then I post about it on my blog. I call it the Frugal Thing Of the Day."

"I just recently became a full time stay at home mom. I am finding that I feel deprived and depressed at all the penny pinching I have to do. I like how you feel good about being thrifty and finding a good deal. The funny thing is when I didn't exactly have to worry about it I liked doing it. Now I am just feeling deprived and depressed about it. Any advice?

"I, too, just became a SAHM and am in the process of starting my own business. Until the $$ starts coming in, we need to be more careful than we are used to with our money. I just contacted my insurance agent and asked if they could match a quote I received from another company. They compared the quote to the rate they could get for us with another company they sell for and we are going to be able to save almost $200/year on our auto & home insurance. I think this is a good place to begin."

"We currently host workshops on this very topic in our local area and struggle with breaking "stocking-up on a budget" into smaller steps. Telling someone to 'stock-up' seems simple to us because we've been doing it for some time but when you are just starting out many questions arise: What do I stock up on? How much do I have to buy to 'stock-up'? How do I stock up when my budget is already too high? Storage issues...etc. We're trying to address these concerns and the overwhelming feeling that results from such a daunting task. Any advice you have would be wonderful!"

"One of the first baby steps I took as a SAHM was to stop going into the stores. It is just too tempting to see all the latest fashions and cute baskets, etc. Now if I am in Target I have my list and only go view those needed items, then get out! Of course my 21 month old helps me out by losing patience fast in the cart anyway!
Great idea for a series Amy! I agree that it can be depressing trying to pinch pennies all the time and you do a wonderful job at putting a positive spin on being frugal. Heather/Jakesmom"
