A Tutorial On Painting Kitchen Cabinets

We are going to be refinishing our cabinets and I happened upon this great tutorial on how to update them. Has anyone had any experience in this? Have any tips to share?

"I used a water-cleanable primer on mine. - Bad move. They are chipping less than 2 years later..."

"Thank you for sharing that. I probably would have bought the same thing. It makes sense to buy that so you can wipe them off well. Thanks for the tip!"

"We painted all of our kitchen cabinets when we moved and I think this tutorial was right on. She gave great tips about oil-based paint, how to paint beveled doors, and not to wait long after the primer is dry. Great tutorial. I hope your painting experience is a good one. It's a pain in the patoot, but it can sure make a difference."

"Thanks for the video. I have been meaning to do this for awhile. My friend has painted cabinets in several houses and she says she never takes the doors off the hinges. She gets a small paint brush and paints behind the hinges that way."

"Hey Amy, thanks for sharing this, my dh is very knowledgable about paint, he is a Manager with the Sherwin-Williams Company, feel free to e-mail if you have any questions.

"Many of these tips are great and will result in a very nice finish. However, I'd advise against force drying the primer or paint coat with a fan as it disrupts the natural drying cycle of the product and can produce less-than-desirable results. Typically let them air-dry for about 4 hours and recoat. Also, it is perfectly fine to use a latex primer on your cabinets, just make sure the primer is made for slick surfaces (it will usually say 'bonding' on the label) and you'll have great performance without the odor of an alkyd-based coating. In fact, the decorator here is actually using both a latex primer and latex topcoat!

Good luck with your project!-nicole-"
